Achieve excellent water quality using a smaller filtration footprint with MarinePure High Performance BioFilter Media. MarinePure High Performance Biofilter Media is made from an inert, ceramic material with extremely vast surface area, open-flow pores, and natural wetting properties that allow beneficial bacteria to develop quickly and flourish. Open pore architecture allows for exceptional biological filtration capable of handling higher fish loads.

CerMedia MarinePure Biofilter Media features a porous, open-flow design so contaminants are given maximum exposure time to the beneficial bacteria. The result is exceptional removal of ammonia and nitrite while also minimizing nitrates in some systems. Its high performance and reusability make this media an excellent value. Made in the USA.

CerMedia MarinePure Biofilter Media is a great way to deliver consistent water chemistry, even with a large fish load, so you can spend your time enjoying your system rather than maintaining it! A thin bio-film easily develops on this media, and dead bio-film is easily flushed away to prevent clogging. With greater than 80% porosity, water flows through this media, not around it, providing an incredible amount of surface area for extremely large numbers of beneficial bacteria.

MarinePure Biofilter Media can be cleaned, reused and sterilized. Use in freshwater and saltwater aquariums, as well as ponds. Use MarinePure Biofilter Media in sumps, trickle filters, wet/dry filters, canister filters, DIY filters, hang-on-back filters and even inside the aquarium to greatly reduce aquarium maintenance.

Mechanical filtration can greatly improve the health of most aquariums, and is also important for the efficiency of your biological filtration. The process is simple: mechanical media strains solid debris.
Biological filtration is the action of bacteria breaking down dangerous ammonia, converting it to nitrite, and then converting nitrite to less toxic nitrate. This article discusses how the process works.
While most aquarists agree biological filtration is imperative for your aquarium's health, not all agree that mechanical and chemical filtration is absolutely necessary.
